Financial Support
There are a number of sources of financial support available to
both undergarduate and graduate students in the Geology Department. A
complete list of scholarships, awards and bursaries can be viewed
here.
The majority of these awards are open to students of all disciplines,
however, there are some Geology specific awards and they can be found
here. Undergraduate
students can find more information about financial aid at the website
of the
Financial Aid Office. This contains information about deadline
dates and application forms.
Awards
The Roy Saukko Memorial Award
was established in 1995, by family and friends of Roy Saukko. It is
awarded to a Geology student in his/her third or fourth year or to a
graduate student; who demonstrates strong interest and potential in the
exploration aspects of Geology.
The Bernie Schnieders Memorial Award has recently been established to honour the memory of Bernie. Details of this award will be announced in the near future.
Scholarships
As well as the scholarships listed above Undergraduate Geology students may also be eligible to apply for the NSERC
Undergraduate Student Research Award.
These 16 week awards are generally undertaken over the summer and are
intended to stimulate your interest in research as well as encourage an
interest in graduate studies.
The
Mineralogical Association of Canada Scholarship is for students entering the second year of a M.Sc. program in the fields of mineralogy, crystallography, petrology, geochemistry or mineral deposits.
The
Geological Society of America offers support for masters and doctoral thesis reasearch in the geological sciences at recognized institutions in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Central America.
Students of mineral resources throughout the world may apply to the Society of Economic Geologists for
thesis research grants from the Society of Economic Geologists Foundation and the Society of Economic Geologists Canada Foundation. The purpose of the grants is to provide partial support of master's and doctoral thesis research for graduate students.

discuss their application with their supervisor or a faculty member.
